The (now demolished) Regent on Worcester Theater in Cathedral Square, Christchurch, New Zealand. The theater was originally designed by architect John G. Guthrie and constructed in 1930. The theater's auditorium was destroyed by a fire in 1976, but the building was later restored in 1981 as a movie theater. This photograph was taken in January 2011, shortly before the building sustained extensive damage from a massive earthquake that occurred in February 2011. As a result, it was eventually demolished in July 2011. It's always very sad to see the loss of a city's icons and architectural history, in addition to the heartbreaking human toll, that often follow such disasters.
